Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome, Essence! We recommend to play this awesome music during reading for better perception!

Hello essence! How would you introduce yourself?
﹥Hi, my name is Jonathan “Essence” Trice, I am 18 years old and from Conroe, Texas and I produce chill sad stuff.

When did you start making music?
﹥I used to play the guitar when I was younger and the piano a little but never really got good at either instrument since I had a little sister who broke a lot of my things. I really started getting in to beat making though around 3 years ago but I did not start with chill lo-fi beats, I actually started with electronic music, then went to trap until I slowly made the transition to the current music I make today.

What is your favourite instrument or a plugin to use while creating music?
﹥I love to mess around with acoustic guitar samples that I record on my microphone, I would love to produce music with a sample that I have made but a lack of confidence in my ability to play the guitar stops me from doing it. Until I get better at the guitar, I think I am going to stick to digging.

When you get started with creating new piece, what do you do at first?
﹥The first thing I do is try to find an atmosphere for the track, I like working with nice sounding samples so if I know I want to improve the feel of the sample through plugins or atmospheric elements I will do so before dropping any other instruments or samples in.

Who had (or has) the greatest influence on your music?
﹥If I have to be honest it is VAGUE003 and Lucid, both of those 2 have great influence on the style of music i make.

If you could create something with any artist, who would it be?
﹥I would love to work with rook1e, love all of his tapes and picks out some awesome quotes.

What is your greatest inspiration?
﹥My inspiration is san holo, I loved his music when I was younger and he was the reason I wanted to start producing.

What gives you the greatest boost to keep on creating music?
﹥I really just love making music and sharing the music I create, seeing everyone write poems and getting all of there emotions out in a comment section of a youtube video with one of my song in it just makes it seem therapeutic and that I am helping someone who is going through some hard times.

What thing about making music do you wish someone told you earlier?
﹥ORGANIZE, I have ruined 2 computers already from bad organization and it is killing me because I lose so many projects and I have to search for it when I could have just put it in a file or something.

What part of making music do you cherish the most?
﹥With me it is the progression, seeing a song progress from one simple sound turned in to a full song is just awesome to me and gets me excited to do it again. It is one of the reasons I have been releasing so much music lately.

What do you prefer: sampling, simply playing music or maybe both sound fine?
﹥To me it does not matter, do what ever you prefer to do. I understand why people trash sampling but in all honesty going the instrument route is not that much more difficult, anyone can buy a sound bank and throw some midi files in there daw. Instruments can be complex if you make it complex just like sampling can be complex (finding a gold sample never discovered, having really good chops, etc.) if you make it.
